DataStax to buy ML company Kaskada

DataStax for those who don't know is a real-time a NoSQL database build ("Astra DB") on Apache Cassandra. DataStax calls themselves "the real-time AI company". Well that might very well true after their latest purchase, namely Kaskada.

Kaskade is a machine learning company that allows customers to use data created by real-time applications to gather insights and thus make better decisions.  They have several products such as the Feature store, all made to make the life easier for people working with data, such as data scientists.

Datastax will also initially OpenSource the Kaskada core technology. Kudos!

The Astra DB is a massively scalable database which could be used with "Astra Streaming" consolidate streaming and data storage. The purchase of Kaskade will add real-time AI, "using an advanced ML/AI model proven by industry leaders".

What could this "real-time streaming advanced AI/ML memes" be used for?

Lots of stuff  such as predictive solutions in cybersecurity, within manufacturing, recommendation engines, detailed customer engagement. 

Microsoft to invest $10B in OpenAI 💰

Microsoft is reportedly planning to invest $10 billion into OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT and DALL-E. The investment would value OpenAI to around $29 billion dollars.

The deal would result in Microsoft aquiring a 75% share of OpenAI's total profits until their money is made back. When this is done, Microsoft would get a 49% stake of the company.

What would Microsoft use OpenAI for?

Well, noone outside of Microsoft can't say for sure. But a few bets could be that Microsoft will incorporate OpenAI's AI and ML capabilities into their products such as Bing and Office/365.

BioNTech buys startup instadeep for £560m

German company BioNTech has aquired the London-based AI company InstaDeep for a total of £560m. This after previous investments in January 2022 of more than $100m by BioNTech and Google.

InstaDeep tries to incorporate the "rapidly evolving AI capabilities" into research, drug discovery and manufacturing. One of their goals it to design the next generation of immunotherapies to fight cancer, for example.
