OpenAI $29B evaluation - Apple made narrators obsolete?

Today we get information that Apple secretly has release AI-narrated audiobooks in their "Books" app.

So today is the 13th day of christmas, I don't bear myrrh but I have news!

So last night (and this morning) I read through yesterday's newsletter again a few times and I think i've found a layout and some design that would work. I will do the finishing touches tomorrow and let's see how it goes ;)

What do we have today then?

  • OpenAI $29 billion evaluation

  • Apple quietly release AI-made audiobooks

Apple secretly released a few audiobooks in their Book's app. The audiobooks released are described as "narrated by digital voice based on a human narrator".

Apple goes on to say that this will make the process for creating audiobooks less complicated, allowing for more publishers to make audiobooks.

Some claim that this will render narrators for the audiobooks useless, as it all can be done cheaper with AI. Others are skeptical however, meaning that the combination of skilled writers and narrators makes for a better, more complete experience.

What do you think, is this the death of the audiobook narrator?

Doesn't it feel like we just talked about OpenAI? (We did in yesterday's newsletter) So for those who don't know OpenAI is this chatbot that has taken the internet by storm recently.

Raising questions around, like if we're all doomed..

Yesterday it came to be known that the creator of the chatbot, OpenAI is looking to sell some of it's shares, valuing the company at $29 billion dollars. ðŸ’°

Who would buy OpenAI then?

One possible buyer would be good ol' Microsoft as they have already invested $1 billion into OpenAI in 2019. Most likely to incorporate it into their search engine Bing (yes, it's still alive).

This time around however it won't be Microsoft, it seems that VC Thrive Capital and Founders Fund seem to be buying shares from current shareholders. Congrats to OpenAI and long live AI!

Do you think OpenAI is worth $29 billion?
